Accor Hotels Expansion in China

Accor is doubling its footprint in Greater China with an ambitious plan to grow from its current 830+ properties to 1,600 hotels over the next five to six years. Announced during a press conference at Shanghai's iconic Peace Hotel, this massive expansion focuses heavily on scaling luxury hotel pipelines, penetrating lower-tier cities, and embedding deep strategic partnerships with local hospitality giants. 

The Strategy: "Refining the High-End, Deepening the Midscale"

• Luxury Pipeline: Accor already operates over 50 luxury properties in Greater China with more than 40 more currently under active development.

• Lower-Tier Cities: While luxury brands target top-tier urban hubs, Accor is heavily pushing midscale and economy brands into China's rapidly growing lower-tier cities to capture rising domestic travel demand.

• Capitalizing on Inbound Tourism: The expansion responds to a 46% year-on-year surge in inbound international guests at Accor properties in mainland China, driven by relaxed visa-free travel policies.

Massive Local Alliances

Rather than expanding alone, Accor is utilizing its "local-partner playbook" to integrate seamlessly into the market: 

• Jin Jiang International: Signed a major framework agreement for a new luxury project in Shanghai and further ESG alignment.

• H World Group: Expanding a decade-long alliance to connect direct booking and loyalty platforms across a massive combined ecosystem of 19,000 hotels.

• Sunmei Digital Intelligence: Collaborating to deepen regional distribution and leverage localized tech solutions.
